Class Rules & Expectations

Class Expectations and Rules:

  1. RESPECT Others (including all teachers, students and facilities)
  2. Have Fun
  3. Pick/ clean up after yourself
  4. Be Prepared (pen, pencil, binder, textbook, note paper, assignment book brought to every class)
  5. Understand and follow class policies as outlined below
  6. Follow general behaviour guidelines and lab rules as discussed in class

Consequences:

·         1st time: Verbal warning.

·         2nd time: Lunchtime detention.

·         3rd time: Student will receive a blue detention slip which will require a parent signature. The student will be assigned an after-school detention on a day designated by the teacher from 2.40 p.m. to 3.40 p.m.

Policies

  1. Assessment

o        5% Participation (following rules, bringing materials, coming to class on time, cooperation in group work, etc.)

o        25% Homework

o        30% Lab work, Activities, & Projects

o        40% Quizzes & Tests

  1. Late Work

o        If you have an emergency and you cannot finish your work on time, talk to the teacher FIRST thing in the morning to make arrangements.

o        Credit for late work will be given as follows:

o        50% if handed in by the next science class

o        25%  if handed in later than the next science class up to one week

o        0% if handed in more than a week late

o        It is very important that you complete every assignment on time and on your own.

o        Homework will be given nearly every time you have science class.

  1. Headings on Assignments
  • Put your assignment in the appropriate inbox
  • Your paper must have a heading that includes:

·        Name (first and last)

·        Date

·        Period

·        Assignment

    • Write the heading on the upper right hand corner of the page.
  1. Cheating
    • Any student found or considered cheating (this includes letting other students copy your work!) will receive 0% for the assignment
  2. Excused Absences
    • Examples: If you are ABSENT from class for an appointment, sickness, etc…
    • It is YOUR responsibility to check what you missed, what I collected, & what is due – see the website for the homework that you missed or any assignment sheets handed out during the lesson.
    • It is YOUR responsibility to make up missed work – ask a friend if you can borrow the notes to copy.
    • You must make up all assignments missed during an excused absence.
    • Assignments that are due the day you missed should be turned in during the next class period that you attend.
    • If work was assigned while you were out on an excused absence, you will be given the assignment your first day back in class. You will then have as many class periods as you missed to turn in your work.
  3. Unexcused Absences
  • Examples: skipping school, sleeping in, and missing the bus.
  • Missing work from an unexcused absence will receive zero credit.
  1. Tardy Policy
  • Be in your seat and copy homework into your assignment book when class starts.
  • Have your homework in front of you for me to check.
  • Three ‘tardies’ will result in an after school detention.
  1. Extra Credit
  • No extra credit will be given.
  1. Bathroom
  • Use the bathroom during break before you come in.
  • Use the bathroom during class ONLY in the case of an emergency.
  • Bathroom break is five minutes or less.
  • It is your responsibility to make up work you missed while in the bathroom.
  1. Food & Drink
    • No eating (including gum and candy) or drinking of liquids other than water is allowed in the classroom.
    • You may bring water in a clear container with a lid to drink during class.
